On the Road Again

These come to us from Ms. A Peterson-Rinehart, captured in Omaha, Nebraska.

We're closing up shop for a week, and heading on vacation, and hope to find some ghost signs in the great state of Michigan.  Back a week from Monday.
In the meantime, feel free to search our archives, (to the right), and get your fix.

Life on the Street

The back entrance to the current Hamilton County Board of Elections.
Also, homicide cops work out of here too.

A More Modern Touch

Along Warsaw Avenue, across the street from the Public Library.
Most of the ghost signs we see were created in the late 19th, or early 20th Centuries.  This is rather obviously late 20th.

Forgetful

Three years ago, we ran in the Redlegs 5K, and noticed this sign, along Mehring Way.  We made a note of it, and promptly forgot about it, because the front of the building was much more noticeable.
Until this year, when running in the Redslegs 5K, when we saw it again.

Cool Sweet Smoke

There has to be a good explanation for why this beauty has escaped our attention before now.

It's on McMicken, near Colerain, and very close to the Mockbee.

All we can offer is that we saw it years ago, but the lighting was bad, and we filed it away for a future shoot, and forgot about it.

High Five

Warsaw Avenue, a couple blocks east of yesterday's entry.
I see a giant 5, which makes us think of this.

Warsaw & McPherson

How about a slightly better angle?

(Candy Cathartic?)

And on the other side of the building, one we've captured before:

Bankrupt

This one is soon to be lost.  The building will be torn down, and a new Drop-Inn Center, a homeless shelter, built in its place.

May Stern

Sandwiched between two vacant homes, on State Avenue.

If we find one more May Stern, it will have to have its own category.

Look Familiar?

Acquired at the annual book sale for the Cincinnati-Hamilton County.
And it's a durn good album too.

Some new ghost signs next week, as we return to our usual fare.

Gone to Kentucky

The storefront church is vacant now, the Scientologists having gone to Florence, KY.

Interesting side note: the founder, L. Ron Hubbard, was born in Tilden, Nebraska.  We had a girlfriend while in college, who was from there too.

A Reprieve?

The Writing on the Walls is not taking a firm stand on whether the building should be torn down or not, but we will say it'd be a shame to lose that signage.

You'll remember recently, the building developed a hole near the roof.
So, it's been "fixed".  At the cost of the guy's head.  That's probably a good indication of the future of the ghost signs.

Digging Cincinnati History did some substantial research on the building's storied past.

Gone, but not Forgotten

On the side of a former hotel, on Fairfield at O'Fallon, in Bellevue, KY.

The "old" sign is just a relief now.

Return of the King

We've been through this intersection, Warner and Wheeler, a few times, and never noticed anything, until yesterday, when Elvish magic revealed this.
(Click on the pic for a better view.)

*Yes, we know the character from Lord of the Rings is actually Aragorn, but we couldn't resist.

Corryville

On Short Vine, a street that ought to be teeming with ghost signs, IMHO.  But it isn't.

This Should Look Familiar

But, that was when we were still new and inexperienced enough to make mistakes like "not checking the other sides of the building for more signs."
