Gilbert and Sinton

Walnut Hills is proving to be a fun hunting ground, with ghost signs where I don't expect them.  And with this entry, more than Queensgate, Camp Washington, and the West End*.

"Office Sales" are the only words I can make out.

(*More entries anyway.  I'm not anal enough to keep detailed records on how many each neighborhood has.  Yet.)

Losing Another?

WVXU posted an article on a mural in the Pendleton neighborhood of OTR.
What jumped out at me first?  It wasn't the vibrant colors.

Pat, I'd like to solve the puzzle.  "FURNITURE".

I'd get worked up about losing a ghost sign, but, this one is pretty far gone, and it's at least being replaced with art.

Tucked Away on McFarland

This is what originally caught my eye, as I was walking on Elm.  Getting closer, the rest came into view, and it didn't disappoint.

Although, I should probably revisit, when it's not covered in shadow.

Same Wall as Before

This is the same wall as the previous entry.  It's badly faded, and layered, and even without the light and the shadow that makes photography difficult, it's not easy to read.

One Thing Leads to Another

This is not what originally caught my eye.  (See previous entry.)
But, that which did, the picture is lousy.  And I want to do it justice.
While this BIS isn't very spectacular, it is layered over another one, the photo of which is also in need of retaking.
Third Street, west of Elm, next to the ramp to I-71/75.

False Spring on McFarland

A couple of Sundays ago, when the weather was nice, I went for a walk.  Because a sidewalk was closed where I usually walk, I crossed over to the other side of the street.
That simple detour led me to several previously unnoticed ghost signs, which, by now, in Downtown Cincinnati is still surprising to me; that there are still streets and alleys I've missed.

This one, I believe, reads Contemporary Galleries (something).  It's on McFarland, just east of Elm, and was not the one that initially caught my eye.  But, it was on the way to getting a better angle to that which did.

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Dad sent me these "living ghost-signs" via this page, which is pretty danged interesting in itself.

It's Dad's birthday today.  You'll remember him from our Hebron entry.  And from the fact, he's my father.

Beginner's Luck

On Race, just north of Central Parkway.
I didn't see this one.  My friend Jenny did.
While driving, none-the-less.

You Tell Me

Am I seeing something that isn't there?

Oft, pictures don't do ghost signs justice.  Sometimes, they don't show up at all.  In other instances, the naked eye barely catches them.  And on the south side of the Race Street loft, the angle is just bad enough that I can't tell: Is it discoloration, or ghost signage?

We see what we want to see.

In the Spirit of Yesterday's Post

But it's also entirely possible there was never a sign here, and we're just seeing residue from whatever.

Off of Central, between 4th and 5th.  Behind the Fire Station.

Probably

Yes, there was probably a sign there once upon a time.  Hardly noticable, considering this is just to the right.
You may wonder why I include things like this.  It's hardly a sign, it's so ghosted.  But, as I figure, someone may see something my eyes don't.  Or, the sight of this may jog someone's memory, or connect them to a photo of when the sign was visible.  Can't hurt.

Cunningham

There's a 'signature" at the lower left corner.  At first glance, I thought it was "Cunningham", but I'm not so sure now.

It's right across the street from this sign, and not far from David Shoe.

Related

Our western office scout, D.L. Hudson, turned in this finding:

(via Boing Boing.)

Now, what's really, really cool, at the 2:00 minute mark, we have a sign painter standing in front of this:

And, in a quick montage, I saw a couple from Omaha, including a different shot of this building:

A Good Day for Hunting

Warmer weather means more movement.  Hunting season is now open.

Basically, hibernation is ending, and I'm getting out more, and finding more signs, like these on the parking garage at Eggleston and 4th.

And, there were five other ghosts discovered today.

Friday Fun!

There are three ghost signs in this picture, taken at 9th and Race.
Can you find them all?  No cheating!
Here's a hint though: Two of them say "Ford".
The answers are indicated in the next photo.  Just turn your screen over to see.

Actually, there may be more than three.

That discoloration in the center of the photo may be one painted over, and trying to leach through, and while not visible in the photo, above the Yum Yum Restaurant, there may have been something at one time.  In person, it kinda looks that way, anway.

All of these have been featured separately, previously.

Mercer Commons

This picture is from November.  I haven't been back to the Mercer Commons development area since, so, I'm not sure if the building still stands.  However, CityKin has an artist's rendering from a couple of years ago that seem to show it still standing, once some neighboring structures are replaced.
(Don't look at the red circle, that's a different issue.  Instead, look along 14th Street on the map, and compare the drawing with this photo.)

Not the Usual Fare

Because it's built into the side of the structure, instead of painted.
On 12th, as seen from Vine.

I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

Sent to us by one Ms. E. Correll.  Near Findlay Market, visible from Pleasant, she says.

Definitely worth a visit.  Because, obviously, there's mentions of televisions, and other household appliances, but, is that a Ford oval?  And who is the artist?  Something Lemon?
I love it.

Post BockFest Surprise

After this weekend's BockFest activities, the last thing on my mind was "more beer".  But, what do I see as I'm on Central Parkway this morning?

This brewery closed down in the late 1950's, according to Wikipedia.

Pharmacy

First noticed, and taken while waiting for a red light to turn green.   East McMillan.

There Are None So Blind...

That's not a completely fair title.  But, we tend to see what we want to see.  For instance:

Last week, when the light was just right, several previously unnoticed ghost signs materialized before me.  Like this one, on Vine.

Now, compare these pictures with some taken by fellow Ghostsignbuster Visualingual.

It's the same block.
She focused on the Barr's Loans, but missed the painted sign, whereas I completely blocked out the bright yellow sign for these.
We see what we want, I guess.
