From the Mailbox

From Mr. C. Schweer, spotted in Seward, NE.

Hunting

We don't do a lot of ghost sign hunting Downtown any more,

because we've found everything.

Or have we?

Until recently this was covered by shoe repair sign on Vine, at Court.

Reader Submissions

These first three samples come to us from Mr. B. Johnson,

during his recent trip to New Orleans.

Note the layering in this example. It's likely the sign beneath the Dixie Mill

sign is for Uneeda Biscuit.

We've been lax in updating, and we apologize for that.

We've been so lax we've forgotten from whom some of our reader submissions came.

We apologize for that as well.

Ludlow

At the corner of Elm and Kenner, in downtown Ludlow, KY.

The pharmacy has moved on.

I suspect this sign was painted to celebrate an anniversary.

But, historically, there was a sign painted on this wall.

Northern Kentucky Views has a photo. It looks to be from the 1960s or 1970s.

If you poke around that site, you'll find more than a couple of other ghost signs before they became ghost signs.

The Brigadoon of Ghost Signs

Sometimes you can't see it.

Sometimes you can.

Go figure.

This giant HVAC box has another Shillito's sign on the western side.

Marysville, Kansas

We caught these in another trip out west.

Along Hwy 36.

A many-layered sign, on the edge of town. We believe there's a Coca-Cola sign in there somewhere.

And not far away, a tobacconist.

There's another sign we just couldn't stop to collect.  But we did find it on Google Street View.

Gone

The removal of the sign for the Imperial Mall, while a shame,

isn't inappropriate. There's really not much of a mall there.

Photo found in the Hastings Tribune. Submitted by Ms. P. Birky.

You can see more of this sign here.
