The Big Reveal

It seems as though every time there's a renovation project Downtown or in Over-the-Rhine, something is uncovered.

Like these, found on Court Street, between Vine and Walnut.

They've been exposed for awhile now, so we're hopeful they'll be left alone.

We can't imagine what business they were for, but we can speculate:

Shipping? Railroad? Travel?

We do have ghost signs from many of the cities listed:

Detroit Nocture

The Electric Irons sign is in the lower left hand corner of the Hartz Building.

And the Simmons and Clark sign may not be a ghost, or faded, but it's beautiful.

And always remember: If you see a ghost sign on one side of a building, there's a good chance there someone on another side too.

Wapakoneta

Wapakoneta may be best known as the hometown of Neil Armstrong, but it's also the home to these beauties.

The classic Mail Pouch tobacco sign

Layered with the classic Coca-Cola.

Sold Every Where

And another Mail Pouch tobacco sign just about a block away.
Note at the bottom: "Sweet Smoke" with the window possibly cut over something else.
Could that something be "Cool?"

Mail Pouch is often associated with chewing tobacco, but many of their signs also advertise cigars, and carry the phrase "Cool Sweet Smoke."

I didn't see signatures on either of these signs, but it's entirely possible they were painted by the late Harley Warrick.

Across the Nation

We start our mailbag tour in Wausa, Nebraska, courtesy of Mr. F. Jesse.
(We're interested in the Cook Paint sign, mostly)

Our next two come from Ms. D. Walz in Lincoln, NE.

She says they are near 7th and N.

Also from Lincoln, NE, via Ms. Walz.

And Ms. Walz found this in Aurora, IL.

The next stop is New York, New York.

These are courtesy of Mr. B. Johnson, from his latest visit to the Big Apple.

Fantastic!

Finally, we close with a Facebook video link, courtesy of Ms. C. Storer Haney, in Salinda, CO.
Salinda, we're coming to visit, someday!

Detroit, Rock City

On a recent excursion north to visit a friend, we ventured across the border into what some people refer to as "that state up north."

Mr. M. Walker took us into Detroit's Greektown for a couple of hours of imbibing, and ghost sign hunting.

Nigh impossible to see in this photo, but the signature on the lower left of this lovely layered sign is from Walker & Co.  Ironic, considering our guide was Mr. M. Walker.

More to come...

Recently Uncovered

As seen from the corner of 7th and Vine...

And from the corner of Central Parkway and Race.

As the renovation continues, we're hopeful more will become visible.

**Update**
(It was painted over soon after this photo was taken.)
