Look Down

Our battle cry for ghost sign hunting is "Look up!"
Well, if we had a battle cry, it might be.
But it's just as important to look down too.
We didn't actually see this one. Ronny Salerno did, as we did some hunting with him earlier this year.
That's actually him in the reflection in the door.

Did we mention his book on ghost signs comes out today?

Archived

Some older shots we hadn't used yet.
No, it hasn't snowed here.
Yet.
At Sycamore and Court.
This is taken from inside the Hamilton County Courthouse.

And from 7th and Sycamore.
Construction of a new hotel Downtown has made seeing this a little more difficult.

Promo

A fellow we know has written a book on a topic near and dear to our hearts.
We think you can guess what it is.
It comes out November 30, with a party at Igby's.

We haven't seen an advance copy, but we're sure it'll make a great Christmas gift.
(And not just because this site is mentioned.)

From Michigan to Texas

Submitted by Mr. B. Johnson as he patrols San Antonio, Texas.

A cursory Google search turned up no hard evidence of this business, but plenty of stories of furniture made in "Furniture City" and exported to San Antonio.

In the meantime, please peruse our inventory from Michigan.

Better Seen in Person

We'll admit: this is not our finest example of a ghost sign.
But, we believe there IS something in this photograph.
Looking up Race, from the northeast corner of Washington Park.

Enhance.
See it yet?

Okay, it looks like simple discoloration, we admit.
(We used a real digital camera with a real lens on this.)

And oddly enough, the phone camera seems to bring it out.
And in person, it's as clear as a bell.  Provided the light is good.

When the Light is Right

For years, we've been looking at the Pendleton Art Center, wondering why it was devoid of ghostsigns.  But, last week, one was revealed in all its glory.

No. Really.  It's there.  Or at least it was.
We can just make out "THE UNITED STATE" as it rapidly fades away.

And above the entrance to the warehouse-turned-arts collective:

Fall

We look forward to an updated version of this sign, from Mr. D.L. Hudson, once the leaves have fallen.

Agents of G.H.O.S.T.

That doesn't stand for anything. It's just that we've been getting more submissions from our field agents than we ourselves have been finding.

These two come to us from Mr. B. Johnson, upon the occasion of his recent trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the marriage of his son.

(We believe this may be the Nelson Bros. building in the former photograph.)

More from the Mailbox

It's not often one sees cursive in a ghost sign.

Many thanks to our Western Field Agent, Mr. D.L. Hudson.

More from the Big O

Our Western Field Agent, Mr. D.L. Hudson has been enjoying the warm autumn lunch hours with more strolls. This, he found, near the corner of 24th and Douglas.
