A New Find and a Questionable Find

 

On Vine Street in Mount Auburn.
It's a pretty heavily traveled street, and we wonder 
why we hadn't seen this earlier. We strongly 
suspect there was another building blocking it
that was recently torn down.

Green Street, between Race and Elm.

We have some questions about this one.

It looks to be in really good shape, save the name of the proprietor

being unreadable. Suggests it was covered by boards or something.

But if you look at the Google Street View from 2018, 

there's no indication of a physical barrier protecting the lettering.

And there's no indication of lettering either.

Even more peculiar, the thin rods running the length of the sign are visible

in the Google Street View, as are the brackets on the corner.

And neither the brackets nor the rods seem to have been disturbed.

 So, we're not sure if this is a true ghost sign or a clever reproduction.

Chester and Deshler Nebraska

On the border of Nebraska and Kansas, along US 81, sits Chester, Nebraska. 

Named for President Arthur, home of six-man football and to this one ghost sign.

Just north and west sits Deshler, Nebraska.

 

Ohio City, Part Two

Ohio City is a veritable cornucopia of ghost signs.

We'd question the authenticity of this ghost sign, but we appreciate faux ghost signs as

homages.

Another modernish sign over and above an older exhibit. Can you see "China?"

Ohio City, Part One

 Across the Cuyahoga River, from Cleveland, lies the sleepy, historic Ohio City.

It is rich in ghost signs.

Kiefer's is now a kaffeehaus.

Destruction Revelations

Sometimes... no. Often. No. Frequently. No. Let's stick with sometimes.

Sometimes the destruction of one building will reveal an unexpected ghost sign.

Or at least a partial, as in this saloon hand, visible after the closing and demolition of

of Campanellos on Central Avenue.

 

Ghost Signs of Northern Kentucky

 

Latonia, a neighborhood of Covington. 

Tim's closed down before the pandemic.

Note the details, like the Latonia sign, and the L&N locomotive. L&N stood for Louisville and Nashville.)

And directly across the street from Tim's was John's.

From Covington, we skip over to Newport:

The original sign for Newport's famed Green Derby has been uncovered as the tavern undergoes renovations.

Back west, to Ludlow:

And then skipping back east to West Covington, for the piece de la resistance.

A cornerstone marks the building as erected in 1867, but we suspect the beer sign isn't that old.

We still can't tell what kind of beer was advertised at what is now the Playhouse Bar.

Not a real ghost sign. As 5chw4r7z calls it, a fauxst sign.

And it replaced this.
