A Closer Look

We've long admired this beauty, sitting just off of McMicken at the end of Elm Street.

But until recently, we never noticed there's a lot more going on with it.
The " ETAL BLA  " is pretty obvious. (METAL BLAST?)
But until this bright sunny day, we never noticed the "JACKSONBREWERY" arced across the top, or the faded words on both sides of the double windows.

This is why we revisit ghost signs.

Victory

First, our thanks, praise, and congratulations to ArtWorks.

They have shown us murals and ghost signs CAN coexist.

And mad props to 3CDC for restoring this classic sign.
They could have painted over it, but chose instead to return it to its former glory.

Reader Submission

These three signs come to us courtesy of Ms. D. Walz, who writes, "My 12 year old daughter is now on the ghost sign kick. She took these on vacation in downtown Fargo with her dad."

Brava, Young Ms. Walz. Brava!

Revisits

Long time readers will know, we like to revisit signs from time to time.
Lighting conditions change, and sometimes we notice things we haven't before.
For instance, the yellow on this sign on McMicken, just west of Vine, pops like it hadn't before.

Also on McMicken, closer to Main, we were so taken with the giant Firestone lettering,
we failed to notice the smaller sign closer to the sidewalk.

Everything New is Old Again

We're happy to see this OTR landmark return to a more natural state.

What had been done to it, you ask?

Now, we're curious about what's next. We believe if it were going to come down,
they wouldn't have bothered removing the Mixx paint job.
